Concavenator

The Hump-Backed Hunter of Cuenca

The Basics

Name: Concavenator corcovatus (meaning "The hump-backed hunter from Cuenca")

Period: Early Cretaceous (approx. 130 million years ago)

Location: Las Hoyas, Spain

The Unique Hump

The most striking feature of the Concavenator is the pointed crest or hump on its back, formed by two elongated vertebrae. Scientists aren't 100% sure what it was for—perhaps for display, heat regulation, or even storing fat!

Appearance & Discovery

Discovered in 2010, this dinosaur was about 6 meters (20 feet) long. Interestingly, researchers found evidence of "quill knobs" on its forearms, suggesting it might have had primitive feathers or bristles!

Diet: Carnivore (A fierce predator of its time).
